A Research Degree for Scholars Who Want to Make a Difference
Programme Duration: 3 YearsThe Doctor of Philosophy in Management is a three-year, research-based doctoral degree offered by the Faculty of Management Studies at Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. It is designed for aspiring scholars and senior professionals who wish to explore important questions in management, contribute new theory and evidence, and find practical answers to problems faced by organisations and society.
Where Management Was Practised Before It Was Taught
Our university sits in Mihintale, beside the ancient city of Anuradhapura — a UNESCO World Heritage site and the seat of Sri Lanka's civilisation for over a millennium. Long before modern business schools existed, this land saw the planning, coordination, and governance of vast reservoirs (wewa), irrigation networks, monastic institutions, and international trade. The great monastery of Mahavihara was one of South Asia's earliest centres of higher learning, drawing scholars from across the region. Studying here means continuing that long tradition of inquiry, reflection, and service to society.

From day one, you work closely with experienced supervisors on research that is rigorous, relevant, and grounded in strong theory and methodology. Whether your interest lies in business, public institutions, tourism, agriculture, entrepreneurship, or sustainability, we support you to produce work that is respected internationally and useful locally.
